Cleaning team working in a bright home

If you work from home, your desk and devices are touched all day. A short daily reset and a weekly wipe-down keep the space clean and help you focus.

Clean your devices

  • Turn them off first. Shut down or unplug devices before cleaning them.
  • Keyboard. Turn it upside down and tap out crumbs. Use compressed air between keys, then wipe keys with a cloth slightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.
  • Monitor and laptop screen. Use a dry microfiber cloth. Do not spray liquid on the screen or use glass cleaner unless the manufacturer allows it.
  • Phone and headset. Wipe them often, following the manufacturer’s cleaning advice.

Desk and chair

  • Clear the desk daily. Put papers in a tray or folder at the end of each day.
  • Wipe the surface weekly. Use a cleaner that is safe for the desk material, such as wood or laminate.
  • Chair. Vacuum fabric chairs and wipe armrests. Check the wheels for hair and dust.
  • Under the desk. Vacuum regularly. Dust and cables collect there.

Stay organized

  • Manage cables. Use ties or a tray to keep cables off the floor so you can vacuum easily.
  • Go paperless where you can. Scan documents you need and shred what you do not.
  • No eating at the desk. Or at least wipe it right after. Crumbs attract pests and get into the keyboard.

Quick checklist

  • Clear the desk
  • File or scan papers
  • Wipe keyboard and mouse
  • Empty the trash
